Overview of the International Green Construction Code
The 2018 International Green Construction Code (IgCC) provides the design and construction industry with the single, most effective way to deliver sustainable, resilient, high-performance buildings. The ‘IgCC-powered-by-189.1’ joint initiative frames the essential sustainable construction building blocks on which future resilient initiatives can develop and expand.

International Green Construction Code. Adoption The International Green Construction Code Public Version 1.0 is available as a resource document to guide adoption and use by jurisdictions internationally. Its use within a governmental jurisdiction is intended to be accomplished through adoption by reference in accordance with proceedings. The International Code Council (ICC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing model codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process. The International Codes (I-Codes) are the widely accepted, comprehensive set of model codes used in the US and abroad to help ensure the engineering of safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures. Nov 28, 2018 On November 8, 2018, the new 2018 International Green Construction Code (IgCC) was released, which now incorporates ASHRAE Standard 189.1. AIA National is currently in the process of reaching out to local building code officials to ensure they adopt Appendix H along with the IgCC.
By collaborating on developing the 2018 IgCC, the strategic developing organizations supporting it envision a new era of building design and construction that includes environmental health and safety as code minimums. The goal of the 2018 IgCC will provide fundamental criteria for energy efficiency, resource conservation, water safety, land use, site development, indoor environmental quality and building performance that can be adopted broadly.
